SPREADING CHRISTMAS CHEER

Sumter County Primary School students were invited to visit Georgia’s Own Credit Union to decorate their Christmas tree. Kindergarteners and first graders made ornaments in art class; these were used to decorate the tree.

After reading "A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving", Pre-K students at Sumter County Primary School in Mrs. Cynthia Rueda and Ms. Laquinitha Williams’ class made a Thanksgiving mix using pretzels, nuts, dried fruit, M&Ms, and bugles just how Charlie Brown did in the book. Each student had the opportunity to make their own editable Thanksgiving mix.

PRE-K PUMPKIN EXPERIMENT

Sumter County Primary School Pre-K students in Mrs. Cynthia Reuda and Ms. Laquinitha Williams' class did a chemical reaction experiment by making a pumpkin volcano. Students learned that mixing the base, baking soda, and the acid, vinegar, produced a gas called carbon dioxide. Each student had the chance to add in dish soap or food coloring for the pumpkin volcano.

ACCELERATED READING AND BOOK CHARACTER DRESS-UP DAY

Sumter County Primary School recently kicked off Accelerated Reading with Book Character Dress-Up Day. Students, teachers, and staff dressed as their favorite book character for the day. Teachers focused classroom activities around literacy including introduction to AR, book readings, sight words, and much more.

First grade students at Sumter County Primary School in Mrs. Leslie Bailey’s class and Mrs. Deidra Stephenson's class planted seeds as part of the science unit on plants. The students made sure their plants had sunlight and water, and they waited patiently for their seeds to sprout into little plants.

GA Pre-K Week
GEORGIA PRE-K WEEK

Pre-K students at Sumter County Primary School celebrated GA Pre-K Week October 4th-8th. Georgia Pre-K Week is about celebrating and raising the awareness of the importance of quality early childhood education. One of their goals is being able to provide a free program to all of Georgia’s four-year-olds to promote future success and excellence. During the week, our students had special dress up days and had local leaders read virtually. Bright from the Start also provided enough books for every GA Pre-K student to have a book of their very own.

Statewide Fire Drill

On October 6, 2021 at 10:00 a.m., Sumter County Primary School students, faculty, and staff participated in the annual Statewide Fire Drill. The fire drill allowed each person to practice emergency exit procedures to ensure prompt, safe evacuations of the facility in the event of an emergency.

PRE-K STUDENTS LEARN ABOUT HANDWASHING

Sumter County Primary School Pre-K had a special visitor. Mrs. Mitzi Parker from the Sumter County UGA Extension Office talked with the students on how to properly wash hands. She read a book, showed students what germs look like, and demonstrated how to wash the germs away.

First grade students at Sumter County Primary School in Mrs. Mandi Saratsiotis’ first grade class enjoyed a fun game of Alphabet Bingo as one of the ELA and Reading activities on the recent Early Release Day. Following dismissal of students, parent-teacher conferences were held virtually to continue to build relationships between the home and school.

CHILDHOOD CANCER AWARENESS MONTH

September is National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month and students at Sumter County Primary School donated a $1.00 to wear a hat to school to help raise money for a local child fighting cancer.
