DINOSAUR FOSSILS IN PRE-K

Sumter County Primary students in Ms. Laura Williams’ and Ms. Makayla Cobb’s Pre-K class have been studying dinosaurs. They had fun making their own dinosaur fossils in class.

SCPS AND SUMTER HUMANE SOCIETY COMMUNITY PROJECT

Sumter County Primary School recently took part in a community service project. Students brought in pet items for the Sumter Humane Society. We had over 200 items donated. A group of students then loaded the items and delivered them to the shelter.

Georgia Southwestern State University basketball teams recently visited Sumter County Primary School and read to the first grade students. The athletes read books, answered questions, and gave out stickers while on campus.

FAMOUS AFRICAN AMERICAN INVENTORS

Pre-K students at Sumter County Primary School in Mrs. Hope Bateman and Ms. Chantel Greene's class enjoyed Black History Week by studying famous Black inventors. One of the days, the class focused on Garrett Morgan who improved and invented the first 3-way traffic light. Students made a traffic light out of graham crackers and M&Ms. They also made stop lights and talked about the importance of Garrett Morgan and the traffic light.

To culminate Black History Week at Sumter County Primary School, Mrs. Archina McRae's first grade class dressed as their favorite African American hero including little Ruby Bridges, Dr. King, and Malcolm X.

Sumter County Primary School recently celebrated the 100th Day of School. Students dressed as if they were 100 years old and enjoyed 100th Day activities in their classes.

MASTERING THE COMPUTER KEYBOARD

Students in Mrs. Archina McRae’s first grade class at Sumter County Primary School visited the computer lab this week during their connection time. Students learned about the computer keyboard and the home row keys. Students also learned how to correctly place their hands when typing. They played a game called Dance Mat Typing on the computers. Many students received a certificate for mastering the home row keys. Pictured below is first grader, Madisyn Jordan, with her certificate.

HOLIDAY ENTERTAINMENT

Mr. Mike Ryan, music teacher at Sumter County Primary School, and a group of first grade students provided traveling holiday entertainment for students and staff. These first graders rang bells to holiday songs. It was a great morning full of holiday cheer!

PRE-K EDIBLE CHRISTMAS TREE

Sumter County Primary School Pre-K students in Mrs. Cynthia Rueda and Ms. Laquinitha Williams' class read, If you take a Mouse to the Movies, then decorated a Christmas tree just like the mouse did in the book. Each student made their own edible Christmas tree with an ice cream cone, frosting, and decorations. Student then enjoyed their yummy tree.
