Mrs. Blayke Usry and Mrs. Tracy Smith’s kindergarten class at Sumter County Primary School enjoyed a hands-on letter recognition activity in the hallway. Students identified beginning sounds from picture cards displayed along the walls and recorded their answers on clipboards, combining fun with learning.

During National Children’s Book Week from November 4-8, students at Sumter County Primary School celebrated with themed activities promoting a love of reading, such as “Hats Off to Reading,” “Well Read” word shirts, and “Curl Up and Read” pajama day. They also enjoyed visits from guest readers, including Americus Fire and Emergency Services, City of Americus employees, and the Americus Police Department.

Sumter County Primary students in Ms. Katie Cason and Mrs. Angela Garcia's kindergarten class held a classroom election, voting on their favorite book after reading three stories. The young voters filled out registration forms, received Voter Registration Cards, and cast their ballots. After counting votes, Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus was the winning choice. Each student proudly wore an 'I Voted' badge to celebrate their participation.
